Statement of Faith

The Bible

We believe the 66 books of the Bible are God-breathed, inerrant in the original manuscripts, and all that the New Testament believer needs for all matters of faith and practice. At Calvary Baptist Church our goal is to preach and teach God’s Word completely and faithfully as He intended. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

God

We believe that the one Triune God as revealed in the Old and New Testaments of Scripture is the only true God, existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three persons of the Godhead are equal in divinity, distinct in function, yet there is only one true God (Matthew 28:18-20).

Salvation

We believe God, before the foundation of the world, made a way for man to be saved from sin, eternal death and condemnation through His Son, Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4-7). Everyone is born in sin and begins their earthly life in a spiritually dead state, an enemy of God (Ephesians 2:1). Salvation is a gift of God and can only be received by God’s grace through trust in what God has done through Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9). Jesus Christ is the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament (John 4:25-26). He was born of a virgin (Matthew 1:18, 24-25), lived a sinless life (1 Peter 2:22), atoned for the sins of all who would believe on Him by His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection (Romans 3; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He is now ascended and the Holy Spirit indwells every true follower of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8-9). This message is called the gospel. When someone is truly born again and brought into God’s family, God’s work cannot be undone (Colossians 1:22-23; John 10:27-29).

The Church

We believe that the bride of Christ is on visual display through local churches. A local church consists of those who have been born again and have been afterward baptized by immersion into a local assembly (Romans 6; 1 Corinthians 12; Acts 2). These assemblies are organized as Christ instructed and keep His two ordinances, Baptism (Matthew 28:19) and the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 10:17; 11:23-34), and strive to follow all that the Lord has commanded, being proactive in the Great Commission of sharing Christ and making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20).

End Times

We believe in the personal, imminent, premillennial coming of Christ for the Church, resurrection and physical glorification for all true believers (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-17; Hebrews 9:28), the great tribulation (Daniel 9; Revelation 6:1-11), after which He will return with His saints to the earth where He will sit on the throne of David, have victory over all His enemies and reign in righteousness for a thousand years (Revelation 20:4-6). Afterward will be the great white throne judgment when the unsaved dead will be raised and judged, resulting in their being cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). Those that have trusted in the atoning work of Christ will be saved and enjoy eternal glory with God (Revelation 21-22).
